Burslem Pottery.

Burslem Pottery, in its present form. Established in 2006. Acquiring the moulds and design rights of Cobridge Stoneware. A pottery recently closed down. That had been a company within the Moorcroft group of companies.

The new owner Tracy Bently. Who had worked for Moorcroft and Cobridge Stoneware. Well known by the collectors of Moorcroft and Cobridge Stoneware. As a result continues to produce pottery in the Cobridge Stoneware style. Particularly the Grotesque Birds designed by Andrew Hull.

Using traditional production methods. Making high fired pottery. Is complex and labour intensive. Initially   slip is poured into a mould. As soon as it has set.  Carefully removed  from the mould.  Excess slip removed. A process called “fetling”. The vase vase is now ready for the first firing. Completed at a very high temperature. The temperature carefully monitored. After it has cooled down. The design is now hand drawn onto the vase. Then etched into the vase. A technique known as “sgraffitto”.  Then hand painted prior to the final firing.

Because of this, the production process takes 5 – 6 working days to complete.

Due to the hand painting process. No two vases are identical.
